When it comes to creating the world of The Dark Knight Rises, it looks like Christopher Nolan is intent on building in a layered cast, much like he did with his last trip to the Bat-universe. And the latest faces have just been announced, with Matthew Modine, Tom Conti and Joey King all added to the growing ensemble.

Modine, of course, might still be best known for Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, and largely spends his time on smaller indie movies and his own shorts these days. But he did crop up in, of all things, Transporter 2. According to Variety, he’s playing a character called Nixon in Rises, though naturally Nolan and co are keeping the other details under lock and key for now. Even less is known about Conti and King’s roles, but while we doubt they’ll be huge, even the smallest roles in Nolan’s films can be pivotal. Conti was last seen in Julie Taymor’s The Tempest, while King played Ramona in Ramona and Beezus.

With shooting now underway and a sprawling production planned for India, England, Scotland, LA, Pittsburgh and New York, The Dark Knight Rises kicked off its viral campaign nice and early shortly before the weekend, resulting in the first picture of Tom Hardy’s villainous Bane leaking online.

The cast already includes Hardy, Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Josh Pence and Nestor Carbonell. The film will be out on July 20 next year.
