Some people have decent relationships with their parents. And then some, like in comedies such as Danny DeVito in Throw Momma from the Train… don’t. It looks like Emile Hirsch falls into the second category as he’s hiring someone to kill his mother in the new dark comedy** Killer Joe**.
Joe will find Hirsch as one of a sibling pair who decide that their mum must die so that they can claim the insurance money. But their plan doesn’t involve a bumbling writing professor as in Train. Instead, they set their sights on “Killer Joe” Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a police officer who just so happens to moonlight as a contract killer.
Since this is a comedy, we don’t exactly expect the plan to go off without a hitch. But hopefully the film will, since William Friedkin, the man who made The Exorcist and To Live and Die in LA, will be behind the camera for the first time since 2006’s Bug.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Friedkin and his cast plan to start shooting this November in New Orleans.
