In a continued attempt to find interesting, less predictable work post-Oscar, Matthew McConaughey has his eye on another interesting film. He’s now attached to star in an adaptation of Christopher Dougall’s best-selling book **Born To Run.

Matthew Michael Carnahan has tackled the adaptation of the tome, which is subtitled 'A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, And The Greatest Race The World Has Never Seen'. It follows an award-winning journalist, a runner noted for being injury-stricken, and his journey to Mexico’s Copper Canyons to learn the secrets of the Tarahumara Indian native people. They’re known for the ability to run for hundreds of miles without getting out of puff or injuring themselves, and the reporter looked into scientific reasons for their prowess. He also organised a race pitting some of North America’s best power runners against the tribe.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is putting this one together with Outlaw Productions and LD Entertainment. They’re tracking down financing and will presumably put the distribution rights up for auction, where McConaughey’s presence should help generate plenty of interest.

And that’s not the only new drama that McConaughey is set for. He’s also signed on to Stephen Gaghan’s Gold, which chronicles a real-life corporate outrage.

The film, which has a script from Patrick Massett and John Zinman, tells the story of the 1993 Bre-X Corporation mining scandal. The plot follows a rough-around-the-edges prospector who stumbles upon one of the largest gold mines in the world in the Indonesian jungle. Which, you may not be surprised to learn given the word “scandal” before, turned out to be bogus.

Both Michael Mann and Spike Lee have circled this one, and now Gaghan appears to be finally getting it off the ground. He’ll start shooting in June in Thailand, New York and New Mexico.

McConaughey actor has most recently worked on Gus Van Sant’s The Sea Of Trees and is scheduled to shoot Gary Ross’s latest, The Free State Of Jones alongside Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Now ask us which foot he tends to favour when running... All right, all right, all right...
