As work progresses steadily on Matt Reeves' Batman film for Warner Bros., his choices and ambitious are slowly coming more into focus. Robert Pattinson is officially aboard to don Bruce Wayne's suits and his alter ego's cowl, and more recent reports have Jonah Hill making a deal to play a villain and Jeffrey Wright approached to be Commissioner Gordon. But according to Forbes, we can expect to see more of the Bat-world from Reeves going forward.

While a lot of the report is speculative, Mark Hughes' piece on the new film mentions Reeves looking to tip the hat to other villains (Hill is currently favoured to end up as The Riddler, though he's apparently also mulled the idea of being The Penguin), and there is talk of more. While Joaquin Phoenix seems unlikely to be bringing his class clown from Joker across to the wider DC movie universe, Hughes suspects that there could be another new take on the villain and others to build up the rogue's gallery. Especially if the director is looking to make a trilogy of Bat-films and lay the seeds for others (which we're sure would be Warner Bros.' choice). Among the potentials? Two-Face, Hugo Strange and others.

Then there's the delayed Batgirl project that Joss Whedon was at one point attached to handle, and Chris McKay's long-gestating Nightwing, which features Bruce's ward Robin striking out as his own hero. Dick Grayson (for it is he) may pop up in either the first film or down the line, while the same goes for Batgirl, AKA Barbara Gordon. If Wright is indeed playing Commissioner Gordon, we could meet his daughter before she shows up down the line either in her own movie or as part of Reeves' films.

Naturally, all of this hinges on Reeves' film being a success. He's yet to shoot a frame, but The Batman (or whatever its final title might be) is due on 25 June 2021.
