Well, that didn’t take long. Following the official confirmation that Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes director Rupert Wyatt would not be coming back for the sequel (Dawn Of The... you can fill in the rest), 20th Century Fox began a search to find a replacement. A legion of possible shot-callers came wandering through the doors, but now Cloverfield /** Let Me In** man Matt Reeves has snagged the job.
To be fair, Reeves’ name was likely fairly high on the list, given his experience blending character work with big FX pieces and the fact that he recently seemed to pass on making the Twilight Zone film for Warner Bros., which would clear some space in his schedule.
He’ll be working from Rick Jaffa And Amanda Silver’s script, which was kicked off by Scott Z. Burns.
The plot remains a secret, though with Andy Serkis locked in, expect to see the next step in Caesar and his simian army’s evolution revolution as the – spoiler alert if you still haven’t seen Rise – virulent infection that began to take hold of humanity spreads and the apes are able to control more of Earth.
DOTPOTA (as we really should call it to spare our tired fingers) will swing into cinemas on May 23, 2014.
