Thanks to Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Matt Reeves has become one of the main players behind the scenes of the current simian franchise. But despite being busy making follow-up War For The Planet Of The Apes, he’s still finding time to help other movies get going, acting as a producer on new political thriller Spring Offensive.
Apes company 20th Century Fox picked up the script as a spec from Matthew McInerney-Lacombe, and is in the early days of setting it up. As for what the film is about? No one is saying for now, though Variety has dug up that it’s a “smart, female-driven political thriller.” The title almost makes it sound like it could be set around the Arab Spring protests between 2010 and 2012, but for all we know, it could just as easily be a sequel to musical Spring Awakening (much less likely on the latter front).
While he’s not officially aboard to direct just yet, and guiding the further struggles of Caesar and co. will keep him busy for a while, Reeves is considering this as a potential future job. For now, though, he’s focused on War, which is in the middle of its shoot and won’t hit screens until July 2017.
