Cloverfield director Matt Reeves is sinking his teeth into a different kind of monster movie.

The 42 year-old director has signed on to write and direct Let The Right One In, a vampire thriller based on the Swedish movie of the same name that’s been causing quite a stir on the film festival circuit over the last few months.

Let The Right One In tells the tale of a 12 year-old boy who befriends, and falls for, the girl who’s just moved in next door – only to discover that she’s a vampire and has been twelve years old for a loooooong time.

While that may seem similar to the forthcoming Twilight, word on the street is that Let The Right One In is a very different beast and is a strange, slow-paced, haunting movie.

There might be some debate about whether Reeves, who’s currently prepping his next movie, Invisible Woman, is the right director to handle this material. But while his work on Cloverfield was obviously kinetic and fast-paced, the slower moments were also quite impressive.

The movie will be a joint production between Overture Films and the resurrected Hammer Films. The first Hammer film in years, The Wake Wood, started filming this week – good to see they’re already going down the vampire route. It's like they've never been away...
