Despite a quick trip back to the UK to accept an Empire award, Edgar Wright is still on espresso-fuelled schedule to make** Ant-Man**, his take on the often insect-sized Marvel superhero. Casting confirmations and one or two rumours have floated in the last few months, but Deadline has it on good authority that Matt Gerald will be joining the other recruits.

Though many stories have described him as a near unknown, it’s not for want of trying in his career. He’s appeared in some hugely successful movies including Avatar, Escape Plan, Choke, Faster, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines. While he’s often played tough police officers and soldiers, it seems the Marvel Cinematic Universe prefers him on the other side of the law. He was White Power Dave in the superb **Iron Man 3 **One-Shot follow-up All Hail The King (which appears on the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray), and now it appears he’ll be a villain up against Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas in Wright’s film.

Of course, no one is yet saying exactly which baddie he’ll be playing, and whether he’ll be a big threat or someone more easily dispatched like Batroc The Leaper in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. We may need to slip truth serum in Edgar’s coffee to find the truth.

With a script co-written by Joe Cornish and a cast that also already includes Patrick Wilson, Michael Pena, Corey Stoll and a less-than-confirmed Evangeline Lily, Ant-Man will shoot in Atlanta and arrive in our cinemas on July 17 next year.
