We were treated to an appropriately tiny 30-second sneak peek last week; today we get the full trailer for Alexander Payne's Downsizing. Take a look below.
Returning to the Midwestern locale of Payne's last film (Nebraska), Downsizing sees a world in which scientists attempt to solve the problem of overpopulation by shrinking people to five inches tall – thereby using less resources and taking up much less space.
Those who volunteer to be smaller are instantly richer and are promised a better quality of life, but such a life is not without its challenges, and the procedure is irreversible. Think Honey, I Shrunk The Kids meets The Royal Tenenbaums, perhaps.
Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig play a couple from Omaha, Nebraska who decide to get the life-changing procedure. Jason Sudeikis, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Laura Dern and Neil Patrick Harris also star.
Co-written by Payne and his creative partner Jim Taylor, Downsizing premiered at the Venice Film Festival last month to rave reviews, and will make an appearance at the London Film Festival in October, ahead of a wide cinema release from 22 December.
