Now he’s firmly on board to direct the Coen Brothers-scripted Suburbicon, George Clooney is in the early stages of nailing down a cast. He’s busy talking to Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Josh Brolin about the lead roles.

Clooney is staying relatively quiet on the plot front for this one, but it’s being described as a small-scale crime drama set in the 1950s, with, one presumes, plenty of Joel and Ethan flavour. It’s a movie that Clooney has had his eye on making for nearly a decade, and he’s finally getting moving on it, with Joel Silver ready to produce and Sony lobbying to distribute the results.

Damon, of course, is a Clooney co-starring veteran after the Ocean’s films and The Monuments Men. He’s as ever in demand, especially given his performance in The Martian. Moore, fresh from winning an Oscar this year, was last seen in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, while Brolin won praise for his work in Sicario and forms a Coen Brothers connection triangle with his potential future director as both he and Clooney will be seen in the sibling duo’s new ‘50s-set Hollywood comedy drama Hail, Caesar!, which is due here on February 26.
