She's recently had to deal with neurotic comic-book geeks (Scott PIlgrim), shape-shifting killer aliens (The Thing) and alcoholics (Smashed). But Mary Elizabeth Winstead's next tussle will be with an Adult Child Of Divorce, playing Adam Scott's long-suffering girlfriend in **A.C.O.D.
Winstead will be Lauren Stinger, the one reliable point of calm in the chaotic life of Scott's Carter. Carter, part of an ongoing study into the effect of divorce on kids, has been dealing with his folks' ongoing feuds for his entire life, but finds himself having to race around organising and placating and reuniting his dysfunctional siblings when his younger brother announces his engagement.
Scott is best known for his regular role in Parks And Recreation, and he's also joined in A.C.O.D. by Richard Jenkins as Carter's father and Jane Lynch as his therapist.
Stu Zicherman is making his directorial debut, following TV credits on shows like Lights Out and Six Degrees. He co-wrote the screenplay with Ben Karlin (The Daily Show, The Colbert Report), and shooting starts later this month. You can't ask for a much better comedy pedigree than all that, so let's hope it delivers the necessary laughs.
