Films and shows about comedians working on their craft at the expense of their personal lives are a big trend at the moment, so All About Nina feels like it has come along at the right time. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Common are leading the cast for the new movie.
Writer-turned-director Eva Vives has been working on this one, and has also recruited Beau Bridges, Kate Del Castillo, Chace Crawford, Clea DuVall, Jay Mohr, Melonie Diaz, Camryn Manheim, Mindy Sterling and Angelique Cabral for the darkly hued, semi-autobiographical story.
Winstead will be Nina Geld, a funny and provocative stand-up comedian whose career is taking off at the same time that her personal life is crashing and burning. Looking to escape a difficult ex, she heads to Los Angeles to prepare for an audition that could change her life. There, she meets Rafe (Common), who challenges every preconception she has.
Winstead was last seen in Fargo and will make this movie her next big screen project. Common has a variety of movies on the way, including The Hate U Give, Hunter Killer and Three Seconds.
