With Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige on stage at this year's D23 EXpo to unveil new information about the company's various MCU-inclusive Disney+ shows, we learned fresh details on the animated What If...?, including a first look at some footage.

The video, which finished some tantalizing glimpses at the series, has yet to make its way online (whether it will at all is unknown at this time), teased some of the possibilities the show will be exploring. Anchored by the powerful Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright), the show fragments the MCU and looks at parallel realities, exploring alternate story ideas. "Time, Space, Reality, it’s more than a linear path. It’s a prism of endless possibility. Where a single choice can branch into infinite possibilities, creating alternate worlds from the one you know; a reflection of what could’ve been. I am the Watcher," he says at the opening of the tease. "I am your guide through these vast new realities. Follow me and dare to face the unknown. And ponder the question, what if...?"

Among the footage screened was a look at a very different Star-Lord (it appeared to be Black Panther's T'Challa), a world where Bucky didn't fall off that train in The First Avenger and battles a zombie Captain America and, most excitingly, Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter becoming Captain America – or rather, Captain Carter – who carries a shield with the Union Jack on it – and is every bit the hero Steve Rogers became. See a glimpse of her new look via a tweet from Marvel's own Agent M below.

Atwell herself was introduced on stage and commended the look of her character. The show arrives in summer 2021, by which time Disney+ should be well established in the UK.
