Not content with shows on ABC and Netflix, Marvel is spreading its brand across to another American network – albeit one, like ABC, with ties to the Disney family. Freeform has announced, via Variety, that teen heroes Cloak And Dagger will have their own show.
The comic book heroes, Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, are traditionally pair of teens from different backgrounds who bond when they're both dealing with emerging superpowers. Tandy's ability is emitting light daggers, while Tyrone can enghlf people in darkness. They also start to fall for each other, and their relationship only makes things more complicated.
The pair has crossed over with various other characters in the comics and animated series, including Spider-Man and the X-Men (neither are likely on the small screen, despite Marvel now sharing the rights to Spidey), but this would be their live action debut, albeit targeting a younger audience on a network (formerly known as ABC Family) that skews towards the teens and young adult market. Still, they're something different and it remains to be seen who the company hires to oversee the series.
Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues over at ABC, with spin-off Marvel's Most Wanted gearing up. We're still holding out hope for Agent Carter, though it's not looking good, and of course Netflix has the Defenders shows, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones and the rest. In film terms, Marvel has Captain America: Civil War due here on April 29 before it arrives in the US on May 6.
