As it finally crawls from development hell, the cinematic version of cult Edward Woodward show The Equalizer is marshalling its troops. Denzel Washington has long been attached to the lead, and he now has a nemesis, with Marton Csokas locked in to play the villain{ =nofollow}.

**The Equalizer **will find Washington in a slightly different take on Robert McCall, the retired intelligence officer who decides to atone for his past sins by helping the hopeless.

Working quietly at a Home Depot, McCall finds himself drawn into the life of a crusading vigilante when he helps out a young prostitute (Chloe Moretz). His actions draw the ire of the Russian mafia, and in particular a brutal fixer plated by Csokas.

Antoine Fuqua is hoisting the megaphone for the movie, which is set to kick off shooting this summer in Boston.

Csokas has been busy of late, playing Dr Kafka in** The Amazing Spider-Man 2** and, before that, working on Darren Aronofsky’s Noah and Sin City sequel A Dame To Kill For as Damien Lord.
