It doesn't yet have the profile of a Netflix or an Amazon, but Sony's online streaming platform Crackle has also been quietly producing its own content for some time. It's home to Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee and David Spade's Joe Dirt 2, and now it's scored Martin Freeman and Adam Brody as the star of a new drama series, Start Up.
Freeman is playing an FBI agent called Phil Rask, who specialises in financial crime. Brody plays a financier who comes to Rask's attention when he attempts to hide some ill-gotten funds by investing in a tech company: the start up of the title. Otmara Morrero co-stars as the whizz who runs the company, with Edi Gathegi as a high-up member of a local Haitian gang. The story's set in Miami, but will shoot in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Ben Ketai (already behind Crackle's thriller series Chosen and this year's incoming horror movie The Forest) will wear several hats as writer, executive producer and director. Brody is among the other producers.
Crackle unceremoniously shut down its UK service last year, however, so it's unclear when and how we'll be able to catch Start Up over here. Shooting starts this week.
