Puppy-powered comedy Marley & Me continues to dominate the US box office, taking $24 million over the New Year weekend and beating Adam Sandler’s Bedtime Stories ($20.3m) into second place.

A canine caper starring Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson and a yellow Labrador with an appetite for destruction, Marley & Me has captured the hearts of US filmgoers, with post-Christmas grosses totalling $106 million.

Sandler family comedy Bedtime Stories, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button ($18.4m) and Valkryie ($14m) all posted strong numbers, with Jim Carrey carpe-diem comedy Yes Man completing the top five, accruing $13.9 in its third weekend.
