He might not be The Crow,but now Mark Wahlberg has set his sights on a bird of a different feather: The Raven. The actor has worked with Universal to lock in the rights to Ricardo De Montreuil’s sci-fi short film.
The Raven, one of several shorts that struck Hollywood earlier in the year, follows a young man being chased around downtown Los Angeles by robot police drones, with a big ship coordinating the effort to catch him. You can take a look at it on YouTube.
After a long negotiation that fell apart at least once, Wahlberg is producing and developing the eventual film as a possible starring role. Writer Justin Marks (whose sole produced film credit to date is Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, but who has been attached to a host of high profile genre projects from** Super Max** to the new 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) is the man tasked with fleshing out the basic concept into what we assume will be a Minority Report-style thriller.
And before your brow furrows further, this is nothing to do with the other Raven,** **the Edgar Allen Poe pic that James McTeigue is currently shooting right now, with John Cusack playing the writer. But it does make us wonder which film will blink and change its name. Given that McTeigue and co have the jump on them, we figure it’ll be the Wahlberg movie that finds a new moniker.
