Mile 22

So far this summer has brought us intergalactic purple despots, more de-extinct dinosaurs, and taken us slightly further into the past of a galaxy far far away. On the more human end of the scale of the upcoming blockbuster slate is Mile 22, the latest collaboration between director Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg — this time with added Iko Uwais.

While the film is still a few months away from release, it seems that hopes are high for Mile 22 sparking off a new action franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter{=nofollow}, screenwriter Umair Aleem — whose action script Kate was on the Black List and has been picked up by Netflix — is working on a sequel already. Berg’s film stars Wahlberg as intelligence officer James Silva, tasked with escorting Uwais’ Li Noor 22 miles to safety across baddie-strewn terrain. If the film is a hit, it seems likely that Silva could be back in future adventures.

Mile 22 will infiltrate UK cinemas on 27 August — expect more word on Mile 23 (or whatever a sequel might end up being titled) when the dust settles on the first film.
