If you're trying to assuage the anger of fans who might be upset that original Chucky voice Brad Dourif or creator Don Mancini aren't directly involved in the new reboot of the killer doll concept, you could do worse than announcing Mark Hamill as the new throat talent. And that's just what the producers of this year's Child's Play have done.

Using the same basic plot as the original, this version sees Aubrey Plaza as Karen Barclay, who gives her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a toy as a present, unaware that the seemingly charming character hides the soul of a serial killer.

"We feel incredibly lucky to have an icon creating a new take on an iconic character," said producer David Katzenberg at WonderCon. "Mark is a gifted actor and celebrated vocal performer, and he’s approached this challenge with incredible energy and commitment." Hamill himself also made an announcement via his Twitter page.

With Lars Klevberg directing Tyler Burton Smith's script, the film also stars Brian Tyree Henry, Tim Matheson and David Lewis. Child's Play will be out in the States on 21 June, but has yet to secure a UK date.
