He’s got the rising star(s). He’s got the solid actress talent. He’s got the veteran. And now writer/producer Alex Kurtzman is adding some indie cred to his first stab at directing, Welcome to People, with Mark Duplass signing on to join the cast.
To decode that list at the top, the ensemble already includes Chris Pine and Tron Legacy’s Olivia Wilde, Elizabeth Banks and Michelle Pfeiffer. Pine is playing a businessman who is tasked with taking $150,000 from his father’s will to the alcoholic half-sister he never knew he had (Banks).
Pfeiffer will play Pine’s mother, while Wilde is appearing as his girlfriend. Duplass, best known for writing/co-directing the likes of Baghead and Cyrus, is aboard to play a neighbour who shows an interest in Banks.
Kurtzman, of course, is usually to be found cranking out and overseeing the likes of Star Trek and the Transformers films with Roberto Orci (he wrote People with Orci and Jody Lambert). He’s currently busy shooting the new film in Los Angeles, but we wouldn’t hold your breath for an Optimus Prime cameo in a small family drama. Isn’t having Captain Kirk in it enough?
