Jacques Audiard definitely kicked his filmmaking career to the next level with 2009’s stunning prison drama** A Prophet**. So there was always going to be anticipation for his next cinematic outing. Now he’s locked in a project, setting Marion Cotillard to star in Rust And Bone.
This time, Audiard and writing collaborator Thomas Bidegain are basing their screenplay on Craig Davidson’s short story collection. The tales in Rust And Bone are set in a dangerous world of fighting dogs, prizefighters, sex addicts and gamblers. The titular story focuses on a boxer whose broken finger bones mean he has to gravitate towards less legal brawls.
There’s no word on exactly which of the stories will be adapted for the movie itself, though Variety reports that Matthias Schoenarts, Celine Sallette and Bouli Lanners are all stepping aboard to co-star will Cotillard.
Audiard plans to kick off shooting for 14 weeks in France and Belgium in the coming months.
Cotillard, meanwhile, will next be seen trying not to get ill in Contagion and will then show up in The Dark Knight Rises.
