It’s a Macbeth reunion trifecta! Okay, so we haven’t yet seen director Justin Kurzel’s take on Shakespeare’s Scottish play, which stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, as the scheming, murderous main couple. But with word from Deadline that Cotillard will be joining her former screen hubby in Assassin’s Creed, all three are now set for the adaptation of Ubisoft’s game.

Fassbender has been attached to the film for a while now, in the lead role of an everyman kidnapped by a mysterious, high-tech organisation and forced to relive the memories of his assassin ancestors as he locates powerful artefacts.

Cotillard’s role is being kept quiet for now, although she’s meant to join The Fass in several films if the first one spawns a franchise. Which it could if it manages to please the game’s big fan base and hits beyond that to the mainstream movie audience.

Kurzel is set to start shooting this coming autumn, with a December 30, 2016 UK release date looming after the film was moved back from this year. Cotillard was most recently seen in Two Days, One Night, which has scored her an Oscar nomination. She has a voice part in The Little Prince, and Macbeth is awaiting a release date slot for this year.
