Take this with a pinch of salt, since horror movies starring Marilyn Manson have been promised since about 1996, and not much (a tiny role in David Lynch's Lost Highway; a fantastic punchline in Tony Scott's BMW short)** has ever happened. But according to an announcement at Cannes, Manson (aka Brian Warner) and his sometime squeeze Evan Rachel Wood are about to team up for 80s-homaging horror Splatter Sisters.
No plot details have been released yet, but whatever role Manson is down for, is, according to producer David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) "one he was born to play."
Green is co-producing with Edward R Pressman (Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans, American Psycho, The Crow), and the director is relative newcomer Adam Bhala Lough, who hopes to create a new genre he has termed "skinemax", based on the low-grade tits & gore slashers of the 80s and inspired by the long-standing slang name for Cinemax's late-night programming.
Pressman says he's "always been attracted to smart movies about killers made with real vision," and Green chimes in with an enthusiastic, "With Evan Rachel Wood bringing dramatic gravity to the ensemble, I have no doubt this will take the horror genre to a new level." We'll bring you more on this as it develops. and for anyone wondering whatever happened to Manson's Alice project, fear not! Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll is, according to co-writer Anthony Silva, still inching its way through Development Hell.
