Moral drama thriller Prisoners seems to be attracting a great cast, scoring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo, Viola Davis and Paul Dano. But that’s not enough for director Denis Villeneuve, who has just added Maria Bello to the mix.
Written by Aaron Guzikowski, Prisoners follows what happens when a young girl and her best friend are kidnapped in a small town.
One of the girls is the daughter of Keller Dover (Jackman), who decides to act and snatches the bloke (Paul Dano) he thinks is responsible for her disappearance. Trouble is, he may well have taken the wrong man.
Gyllenhaal is playing Detective Loki, a big-city cop who doesn’t exactly like pesky civilians messing with his ongoing investigations. We're assured he's no relation to Thor.
Bello is aboard to play Grace, Jackman’s wife, who we assume will try to be supportive of her hubby while wondering about his motives. Given that it's Bello in the role, we imagine it’s a lot more complicated than that.
Villeneuve is preparing to shoot early next year, targeting a September 2013 release in the States. Bello is currently at work on Paul Haggis’ Third Person. She’ll also be seen in the Grown Ups sequel, which threatens to strike cinemas on August 9, 2013.
