After a few years of figuring that the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise was sitting at the bottom of the ocean in terms of news, the wind is back in its sails with another new potential Pirates film in the works from Margot Robbie and Birds Of Prey writer Christina Hodson.
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Robbie is developing the project with Hodson, and plans to star in a produce a female-fronted movie that won't directly spin off from the main franchise but will tell its own story within the same universe. Quite what that story will be, of course, is locked in a treasure chest for now.
And this is not the same project as the one that veteran Pirates writer Ted Elliott and Chernobyl's Craig Mazin have been working on, though both are sharing the services of producer Jerry Bruckheimer. It's all part of Disney's plan to set sail with new characters and adventures, side-stepping a need to keep relying on Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow.
Robbie will be back on our screens as Harley Quinn in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, due out on 6 August next year.
