Last year, news broke that La La Land director Damien Chazelle was looking to pair that film's Oscar-winning star Emma Stone with Brad Pitt for his next film, Babylon. Unfortunately for the director, pesky scheduling issues mean that Stone won't be taking part, but he does have Margot Robbie in early talks to replace her.
Babylon is being described as an R-rated drama set in a transitional period for Hollywood as silent moviemaking gave way to the talkies. It'll be an original story written by Chazelle that blends real people from history with fictional characters. If Robbie does make a deal to appear, it would mark a reunion with her Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood co-star and, let's be honest, the concept of real world acting folk with fictional additions.
Paramount has stepped up to back the film, shouldering the hefty budget, and is aiming to release it for a limited awards run across the pond on Christmas Day next year and a wider schedule on 7 January, assuming it films on schedule, especially since it's looking to shoot in part in LA, which is still COVID-central even as productions resume.
And Robbie's not the only addition – Colliderreports__ that Wu Assassins' Li Jun Li is also joining the cast to play real-life actor Anna May Wong, who is considered Hollywood's first Chinese American movie star.
