Marc Forster has recent experience of how difficult it can be when people worship an icon and you do something to upset them: he directed Quantum of Solace. So, Heretics, the story of a man shunned by the religious types who once embraced him, seems like a solid choice for a future film job.
Which might be why Variety reports Endgame Entertainment has turned the story into a possible film, with Marcus Hinchey writing the script based on a segment of US radio show This American Life.
**Heretics **will follow Carlton Pearson, who was an up-and-coming preacher and something of a rock star among evangelical Christians at his church.
But then Pearson had the temerity to suggest that maybe, just maybe, there’s no such thing as hell. Cue vicious protests and the former favourite son getting ostracized from the church.
"This film lets us tell a story about evangelical Christians from their perspective, not from the outside," This American Life host Ira Glass says in a statement. "And at its heart, it's a classic old-fashioned movie plot: a man who stands up for what he believes and loses everything because of it."
While Forster will likely add the film to his development slate (which boasts the likes of World War Z), he’s already busy working on Machine Gun Preacher, which stars Gerard Butler as a criminal-turned-lifesaver who tries to help child soldiers in the Sudan.
