The long, drawn-out development of a new film version of He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe has just swallowed up a new pair of writers, with Sony hiring Predators scribes Alex Litvak and Mike Finch to have a crack.
The pair apparently cooked up a pitch that managed to win over both the studio brass and (equally importantly for any brand-based film these days) soothe any worries that rights holders Mattel had about how the characters would be portrayed.
There’s now word on what the new plot will be, but it’ll focus on blond warrior Prince Adam and his power to change into the titular hero as he fights to defend Castle Grayskull from the evil Skeletor.
While the writers were instrumental in helping shove Predators out of limbo and into a swift production schedule, they’ll have their work cut out for them even more on He-Man, since the difficulty of making it has chewed up and spat out Warners, Kung Fu Panda director John Stevenson and countless scribes in the past. They’ll need more than a fancy sword and a catchphrase to win this battle.
