2014's Maleficent explored the backstory of the "evil" fairy who set in the motion the chain of events that would become the mythical Sleeping Beauty tale. We've had to wait a few years for a sequel, but the release date for the follow-up, Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil actually moved forward recently, and the first teaser trailer is online.

Here's the official synopsis for your reading requirements: "A fantasy adventure that picks up several years after Maleficent, in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora, Maleficent II continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within."

With Angelina Jolie back as the title character and Elle Fanning returning to play Aurora, the new story looks to find Maleficent still struggling to reconcile her loyalties and unveiling a new look at one point. Among the new cast additions are Ed Skrein as a villain, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith, who looks to be someone who will match wits with Maleficent.

Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil will be out on 18 October.
