Videogame movies are old hat. What was missing from our lives was films made from Facebook applications. Not any more though: the word from Pajiba is that a Mafia Wars movie is now in development.
If you use the book of face on an even semi-regular basis (or Yahoo! or Myspace, or an iPhone), you'll be familiar with Mafia Wars from the endless updates in your news feed. 30m people are playing this game every month. "Malcolm reached level 64,000 on Mafia Wars". "Malcolm needs your help to defeat Billy the Fish". Fuck off*!*
The game, developed by Zynga, is a strategy-based affair where players build a crime empire, and can recruit other players to join their family. Details on the projected film are scant. All we know so far is that it's destined to be a "crime thriller" which is no great surprise. The company developing it is Radar Pictures, who were behind The Box, The Invention of Lying and All About Steve.
The project is currently "out to writers".
