After all the false starts, delays, re-shoots and a near total lack of publicity material, there was a moment there when we started to wonder if Mad Max: Fury Road would ever see the projector’s glare. Was it some grand group delusion we were all party to? Apparently not! For Warner Bros. has announced that the film will roar into cinemas on May 15, 2015.
Yep, chalk up yet another big release for that already overstuffed year, with the studio apparently figuring that one more really won’t make too much of a difference, although for some cinemagoers it could be as the “wafffer theen mint” to their schedule’s Mr. Creosote.
Plot refresher time! Fury Road follows Mad Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy taking over Mel Gibson’s iconic road warrior), who is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a war rig driven by Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron). Nicholas Hoult is Nux, with Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe and Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus. Then we have The Wives: Zoe Kravitz as Toast, Riley Keough as Capable, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as Splendid, Abbey Lee Kershaw as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile.
For the first time in the franchise’s history, the film will arrive in 3D. When last we heard about the production, director George Miller and some of his cast were headed to Australia for some additional shooting, which it would appear has bumped the film’s release back. So add one more title to your crammed 2015 diary, because it appears Max is back at last.
