After multiple delays caused mostly by weather, George Miller finally got the cameras cranking last year and spent six months shooting Mad Max: Fury Road. But even though he wrapped in December, there has still been no release of pictures, trailers or anything much else from the film. Now we know one reason why: it’s still not quite finished, with Miller planning to reunite the cast for three weeks of additional shooting in Australia this November.
Of course, talk of new shooting always sends warning flares up about troubled productions, and indeed more filming (especially after such a lengthy shoot) adds fuel to that fire. But additional shots have become de rigueur these days for bigger films, and this may have been part of the plan all along. Still, this is one film that, like World War Z, could definitely do without the added negativity surrounding the idea.
While the further delay before getting started on the new material seems odd, don’t forget that the cast includes Tom Hardy, Nicholas Hoult and Charlize Theron among others, none of whom have what could be called empty schedules. It's all set to kick off in Sydney on November 22.
In case you’ve forgotten (it has been a while), Fury Road follows Mad Max Rockatansky (Hardy taking over Mel Gibson’s iconic road warrior), who is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a war rig driven by Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron).
Nicholas Hoult is Nux, with Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe and Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus. Then we have The Wives: Zoe Kravitz as Toast, Riley Keough as Capable, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as Splendid, Abbey Lee Kershaw as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile. As for when it’ll hit cinemas? That’s anyone’s guess, but Warner Bros. is still hoping for a 2014 release.
