A little more than a year ago, word broke that the long-gestating sequel to comedy action Saturday Night Live spin-off movie MacGruber was being turned into a TV pitch. Now we know where it has landed, as NBCUniversal's streaming service, Peacock.

The film followed Will Forte's title character, a former special operative called back into action and teamed up with Ryan Phillippe's Piper and old colleague Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig) to take down the villainous Dieter Von Cunth (Val Kilmer). It didn't blow up the box office, but it did spark a following on home entertainment, becoming something of a cult favourite.

With Forte and co-writer/director Jorma Taccone still involved, the duo are hoping to return fellow film contributors Wiig and Phillipe. Here's what we can expect, per the synopsis: "After rotting in prison for over a decade, America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past—Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber, Vicki, and Piper must race against time to defeat the forces of evil. Only to find that evil… may be lurking within.

Yes, what this means is yet another streaming service, boasting a typically hefty back catalogue and some new shows, including projects from Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler and Orange Is The New Black's Laverne Cox.
