Campy killer android thriller M3GAN built a cult following even before it landed in cinemas, the titular dancing droid doll becoming an internet icon thanks to the trailers. Now, with box office success to go with that early buzz, the Blumhouse and Atomic Monster teams are gearing up for what it currently titled M3GAN 2.0.
Zero plot details have been released, but writer Akela Cooper is already on board to craft the sequel script and stars Allison Williams (who plays Gemma, M3GAN's creator) and Violet McGraw (as Cady, Gemma's traumatized niece that the droid is assigned to protect, which she does in the most violent fashion) are both back.
Director Gerard Johnstone isn't mentioned in the announcement, so we don't yet know if he'll be back, but chances are he'll be offered first crack at the sequel.
Made for around $12 million, the film has passed $95 million at the global box office, and Universal has now put a pin in 17 January, 2025 as a release date. They're not playing around…
