As the TV gods taketh away, the TV gods giveth. On the heels of news that one thriller TV series bearing M. Night Shyamalan's fingerprints – Wayward Pines – has been cancelled, word arrives that Apple has bought an untitled new show from the producer and director.
The show, which hasn't announced its title, comes from the Split man and Tony Basgallop, a TV producing veteran of shows such as To The Ends Of The Earth and Hotel Babylon, is wrapped in the sort of mystery that Shyamalan in particular loves so much. According to Deadline, it'll be a psychological thriller series with half-hour episodes that has already received a straight-to-series order for 10 instalments, with Basgallop writing and executive producing and Shyamalan producing and directing the first episode to set the tone for the show.
It marks the latest move from Apple, which is aiming to compete with the likes of Amazon and Netflix, with series from Steven Spielberg, Damien Chazelle and Reese Witherspoon among others.
As for Shyamalan, his next film, Glass, will be out on 18 January next year.
