Lumet Signs On For Getting Out

Sidney Lumet, fresh from the success (Stateside) of his black-tinged new drama Before The Devil Knows You're Dead, has signed a deal with the Funky Buddha Group to finance his next two films, the first of which is prison drama Getting Out.

The script, whch Lumet also wrote, tells the story of a prisoner desperate to regain his freedom while becoming entangled in "deadly head games" with his prison psychiatrist and the woman he desires (we think that's two people, but who knows?).

Shooting starts in January, with no word yet on casting - but with Before The Devil Knows You're Dead getting pretty ecstatic reviews so far, don't be surprised if some heavyweight actors sign on.

And in any case, let's all give a big cheer for Lumet who, at an age when most men are stocking up on Werther's Originals and trying to remember where they put their favourite cardie, is still making really good movies. Well done to you, sir!
