The last decade saw a yet more film stars aiming for a career boost (or flat-out reinventio) on the small screen and the latest to dip his toes into the medium is Luke Wilson, who will join Laura Dern's new comedy on US cable channel HBO.

Enlightened - which so far only has a pilot order in place - will see Dern as Amy, a self-destructive woman who suffers a serious meltdown and, via a spiritual awakening, resolves to life an enlightened life, which causes chaos at home and work.

Diane Ladd, Dern's real-life mother, will put those years of experience to work playing, er, her character's mum, while Wilson (who has flirted with TV before via a recurring role on That '70s Show but has never taken a proper starring part) will play Levi, her shabby, druggy ex-husband.

The possible show also has some talent behind the camera - School Of Rock's Mike White created the show and will direct the pilot.
