Indie drama State Like Sleep has been through a few casting changes, but is finally in production. Now Luke Evans has joined the cast to play a shady businessman.
The film finds a woman (Katherine Waterston) digging into the circumstances of her husband's death. Along the way, she encounters the sleazy owner of the mysterious club Lebellfleur, which turns out to be a secret high class gentleman's club brimming with secrets. And probably STDs.
Michael Shannon is also on board this one, which carries a slightly unwieldy description from its production company: "State Like Sleep is a film about the basic need for human connection and love. The title refers not only to a doctor's inadequate yet poetic description of what it's like to be in a coma, but also to the psychological state one can enter when dealing with trauma; emotionally closed off but acutely conscious, a blank exterior housing a rich interior life. The story enables this surreal state by pairing spiritual damage with awkward humour, thrill with mystery, and sexual spectacle with the sublime. State Like Sleep finds love and hope in unexpected places as it travels through the ups and downs of mourning and loss."
Meredith Danluck has written the script and is already rolling the cameras in Toronto. As for Evans, he'll next be seen in thriller The Girl On The Train, which arrives here on October 7.
