Having taking something of a blow with the less-than-stellar performance of Independence Day: Resurgence, Roland Emmerich is dipping back into the past for an original tale. Midway's latest recruit is Luke Evans.

Woody Harrelson and Mandy Moore are already in the cast for this one, which is set during the Battle of Midway during World War II. Considered a turning point in the Pacific Theater of operations, it occurred just six months after Pearl Harbor, in June 1942. America struck back against Japan at sea, inflicting devastating damage on the country's fleet.

Evans is playing Commander Wade McClusky, who won a Naval Cross for his actions during the battle. Harrelson, meanwhile, is Admiral Chester Nimitz, one of the leaders on the fleet. Moore's role has yet to be revealed.

Wes Tooke wrote the script, and Emmerich will be shooting in Montreal. As for Evans, he's at work on Adam Sandler's latest, Murder Mystery. and will also be seen in Blumhouse thriller Ma.
