Given the reaction to the first season, it was looking inevitable that we might get more of Marvel and Netflix's street-level superhero series Luke Cage. But the announcement is official, and Season 2 will be with us... At some point in the future.

The exact specifics of the date for the next run of episodes are still to be revealed; in the show's new tweet on the matter, it only says, "Coming Soon". Given the realities of making the show, and scheduling the various series, we wouldn't expect it before 2018 at the very earliest.

Mike Colter will be back as Luke and we'd be surprised if Simone Missick doesn't return to play Misty Knight. Of course, the cast will depend on what happens in The Defenders, the mini-series bringing together Luke, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). The next stage of the superhero saga kicks off with Iron Fist's launch on 17 March, followed later in the year by The Defenders. But for now, the news that there will be more of Luke's struggle with his powers, his romantic life and the criminal side of New York's Harlem district is enough to keep us happy.
