Luis Guzman Will Be Aztec Warrior

Luis Guzman hasn’t really had the chance to play the big action hero in his career. The closest he got recently was exploring **The Mysterious Island **with Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson, and even there he was largely a bumbling, paternal slab of comic relief. But now he’s getting his shot, suiting up as a Lucha Libre wrestler in Aztec Warrior.

Given that **Black Dynamite **director Scott Sanders co-wrote the script and is wielding the megaphone, we have hopes this could do for the Lucha brawlers what Dynamite did for Blaxploitation.

Precious little is known about the plot, though we do know that the story, co-written by Don Handfield from an idea by Handfield and Javier Chapa, finds our hero going up against El Diablo, played by Eugenio Derbez. The Expendables’ Terry Crews and Real Women Have Curves’ Lupe Ontiveros are also in the cast.

Guzman, who has also worked on The Last Stand and DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo, will be filming next month in New Orleans.
