Apple has had a few successes in the animated world, securing the rights to Cartoon Salon's Wolfwalkers, among others. Eyebrows were raised, though, when it partnered with Skydance Animation – creatively overseen by controversial former Pixar boss John Lasseter for several films. The first, Luck, is headed our way next month and the full trailer is online.
Luck introduces us to Sam Greenfield (Eva Noblezada), who is one of the unluckiest people alive – everything that can go wrong for her, does. That is until she discovers a magical lucky penny... only to accidentally flush it down a toilet.
Through that, she meets Bob (Simon Pegg), a lucky black cat and via him accidentally ends up in the Land of Luck, where all good and bad luck is produced. It's run by the Luck Dragon (Jane Fonda) and features the likes of cheerful leprechaun Gerry (Colin O'Donoghue) and eccentric unicorn Jeff (Flula Borg).
Humans are not allowed in the Land of Luck for good reason - Sam's presence causes chaos and severs the connection between the forces of good luck and the outside world. She's then tasked with making everything right...
With Peggy Holmes in the director's chair, Luck will debut on Apple TV+ on 5 August.
