A while ago, powerhouse French writer/producer/director Luc Besson announced that he was getting out of the helming side of the business for good after releasing his latest movie, animated adventure Arthur And The Invisibles.
He said that he was done after making 10 films and wished to take a back seat, writing and producing. But – like others who have insisted they’re retiring (Anthony Hopkins, we’re looking at you), he’s since backed down. At least, a little.
"I made 10 films and I never would have imagined being able to do that when I was young. It's the end of a cycle, that's certain,” he told Screen Daily. “If I don't direct any more films, that's fine. I've said what I had to say. But, I am not an idiot. If someone shows me a good script, I'll direct it," he explained.
That good script might come from the man himself – he also mentions that if The Invisibles does well, he’ll work on adapting the second book in the kids’ series, Arthur And The Forbidden City, which could kick off as early as next year.
