With a June shooting date racing towards him, **Guardians Of The Galaxy **director James Gunn is swelling the ranks of the cast. Today’s news brings word that Ophelia Lovibond will join the film a supporting role.
She’s not one of the Guardians, but will instead be an aide to a character called The Collector. Also known as Taneleer Tivan, he is one of the oldest living beings in the universe, having been among the first of the universe's races to become sentient in the wake of the Big Bang.
After eons of existence, his wife died and in a vision, he foresaw that beings of great power would arise one day determined to destroy all life in the universe.
To prevent this from happening, he decided to devote his life to collecting important living beings and artefacts from throughout the known universe, and placing them in safekeeping. He sees Thanos as a threat, which will no doubt be useful to the **Guardians **in the film. As usual, how much of the backstory will make it into the movie and what form it’ll take is known only to the Marvel team right now.
Lovibond joins Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana and Michael Rooker in the film, which Gunn will shoot in the UK ready for an August 1 release next year.
