Britain has singled out George Lucas for a special honour, it was announced today. Lucas has been selected by the Los Angeles branch of BAFTA to receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film which was given to Steven Spielberg last year. It's thought by many that the award is long overdue to reward Lucas's support of the British film industry - the director made nine films in total in the UK, including Star Wars and the Indiana Jones trilogy. The award will be presented to Lucas at a Los Angeles ceremony in November 2001.
