He’s conquered the small screen (albeit in a cult, those-who-know-it-love-it way) with semi-autobiographical sitcom Louie, but now Louis CK is in demand with some big name directors. The latest megaphone man to come calling is recent Oscar nominee David O. Russell, who has Louis CK in talks to play a key role in his next film, formerly known as American Bullsh*t.
Assuming he completes a deal, CK will be appearing as an FBI agent alongside Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner in the story of the FBI and a massive, true-life corruption case that stretched its tentacles from Atlantic City to Washington.
Known as the Abscam affair, the FBI sting operation saw con artist Mel Weinberg (Bale) and his girlfriend / partner (Amy Adams) caught by a federal agent (Cooper). Instead of being sent straight to the slammer, they’re offered a deal provided they help turn the tables on other crooks, mobsters and some very dodgy politicians. The long con included them taking on the leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Renner), among others.
We’re delighted to see the Louie creator bringing his hangdog style to the movies for more than just a quick cameo role or small parts in less-than-satisfying films. He’ll next be seen in Woody Allen’s latest, Blue Jasmine, which should be in cinemas later this year.
