Between The Addams Family’s Thing and Ash William’s demonically-possessed digits in Evil Dead 2, sentient severed hands have a relatively rich cinematic heritage. Now they’re set to be joined in a three-handed handshake by I Lost My Body, a critically acclaimed French animation which sees a disembodied hand escape from a lab in Paris and begin an epic journey back to its owner, pizza boy Naoufel. It’s a thrillingly unique premise – take a closer look in this exclusive trailer.

The film comes from director Jérémy Clapin (insert your own ‘sound of one hand Clapin’ gag here), based on Guillaume Laurent’s French novel Happy Hand. While English-language dubs of foreign animations aren’t always give the care they deserve, Clapin has personally supervised the English audio track for I Lost My Body, assembling a top cast for its UK release – with Dev Patel and Alia Shawkat lending their voiced to Naoufel and librarian Gabrielle respectively.

The film is heading to the BFI London Film Festival this week on 4 October, with a wider UK cinema release coming on 22 November. It’s then heading for Netflix on 29 November
