Hayden Christensen gets down with the Dark Side

Hayden Christensen has been adding to the levels of excitement over Episode II -- as if that were possible -- talking about his role as Anakin Skywalker. While it's true that bad guys have more fun, Christensen is insistent that Anakin is not to blame for his latterday acts of interstellar tyranny. In fact, the actor insists that we're all just a few steps away from getting in touch with our inner Sith Lord. "I think his transition to the dark side is very well justified," says Christensen. "I think when the audience sees what he's going through, it's the type of thing where the audience would have made the same choice that Anakin makes." So yes, if you want to use this as an excuse to strap on a ventilator and terrorize co-workers with your 'dark powers' then don't let us stop you. However, Anakin's journey to the Emperor's right hand is far from complete at the end of Attack of The Clones. "He's still a good kid in this film, but there are very specific flashes of the dark side in direct reaction to what's happening to him," While getting ready to take his place in the upper echelons of the Galactic Empire, Christensen is still dumbfounded by the serendipitous chain of events that led him from struggling actor to star of the biggest movie franchise in history. "It's been quite the leap," he says. "An exciting journey so far and very bizarre, because it's sort of come out of left field."
