The Lone Ranger Trailer Charges In

After our exclusive teaser poster debut yesterday and a whole bunch of stills the day before, a trailer for The Lone Ranger was expected at some point today – and Apple have proved us right.

From this footage, it looks like The Lone Ranger is not the particularly kiddy-friendly wander in the desert many though it was – with its Led Zeppelin soundtrack, slow motion shootouts, dark cinematography and bleak Monument Valley landscapes, this is far rougher round the edges than the original radio serial.

After a neat railroad twist on the Jerry Bruckheimer tree ident, the key thing to look out for – or, rather, hear out for – is the voice of Johnny Depp's Tonto. Delivered in a staccato Native American tone, he even calls the Lone Ranger his pet name, Kemosabe, as well as holding unto the bottom of a moving train.

And yes, trains – trains are very much the centrepieces of the feature, with one even screeching on its side towards a building and the voiceover booming about the coming of a new power after centuries of horseback transport. In other words, expect train-based stunts aplenty alongside your regular dose of rootin', shootin' and tootin' (whatever that actually means).

August 9 the UK release date to put in your diaries, with American fans needing only to wait until July 3 for their big screen Lone Ranger goodness.
